So what did we do on this day in College Football America Yearbook history?

2012: Harvard (FCS) at Penn (FCS)

Our College Football America Yearbook publisher Kendall Webb never passes up an opportunity to take in the Ivy League. Yes, it’s not what it used to be nationally. But the league features some of the most historic venues in college sports, and Franklin Field at Penn is no exception. Marked by the awning that covers the home side of the field and the incredible views of the downtown Philadelphia sideline from the visitors’ upper deck, the stadium drips history, and is one of the few college venues that once served as the home of an NFL team.
2012: Southern Miss (FBS) at SMU (FBS)
Our College Football America Yearbook editor Matthew Postins did some time with a site call Rattle & Hum Sports for a few years, a Dallas-based site that covered college and pro sports. During that time he covered a lot of SMU football. On this night he covered the Southern Miss-SMU game for Rattle and Hum, along with College Football America, but alas there is no photo gallery from this game.

2016: Utah (FBS) at Arizona State (FBS)

Our College Football America Yearbook editor Matthew Postins was in Arizona on a trip to visit his mother, who at the time was living outside of Phoenix. When visiting family, if Postins can find a way to cram in some football, all the better. Well the contest between the Utes and the Sun Devils was a Thursday night showdown at Sun Devil Stadium. Postins had been to Sun Devil Stadium before. But it was his first night shooting from the sidelines in Tempe, Arizona.

2018: Glendale (NJCAA) at Scottsdale (NJCAA)

Our College Football America Yearbook director of editorial content Chuck Cox spent some time in Phoenix, Arizona, as a kid, and when he found out that all of the Arizona junior college schools were shuttering their football programs after the 2018 season, he wasted no time finding time to get out to see some of those teams play at home. First up was a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, to see the Scottsdale Fighting Artichokes host the Glendale Gauchos. You gotta give it up for the team nicknames. Some of the best in college sports.

2018: Phoenix (NJCAA) at Mesa (NJCAA)

Our College Football America Yearbook director of editorial content Chuck Cox ended the evening in Mesa, Arizona, to see his other Western States Football League contest between the Phoenix Bears and the Mesa Thunderbirds. That wrapped up the season for the WSFL and it wrapped up the league’s existence. After that, the WSFL folded since its Arizona-based members closed their programs. The one non-Arizona based school, Snow College in Utah, set forth to make it work as an independent.
