SEC Releases 2021 Football Schedule

Nick Saban

The Alabama Crimson Tide, the defending national champions, start the season in Atlanta on Sept. 4 against Miami (FL) as the SEC released its full 2021 football schedule on Wednesday.

The SEC mapped out a normal schedule, which includes a 13-week league slate and a 12-game schedule for each team. The SEC played a conference-only schedule in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and managed to play 69 of its 71 scheduled games.

“We are proud to have completed the 2020 football season under unique circumstances and will now focus on playing the 2021 football season as scheduled,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey in a release. “Circumstances around the COVID-19 virus will continue to guide our decision-making should any adjustments need to be made.”

Other games of note in the schedule:

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin makes his 2021 debut with the Tigers against Akron Sept. 4. But the Tigers have a significant non-conference game against Penn State two weeks later.

Most of the SEC schools play at least one Power 5 team this season, including LSU facing UCLA and Arkansas hosting Texas, a game that renews their old Southwest Conference rivalry.

Alabama drew Florida for one of its cross-divisions games. The rematch of the SEC Championship game is slated for Sept. 18 and will be held in Gainesville, Florida.

Georgia faces Clemson in Charlotte to start the season. In October the Bulldogs travel to Auburn for one its cross-divisional games. The annual game with Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, is set for Oct. 30.
