Lenoir-Rhyne played in the spring, as the South Atlantic Conference adopted a two-division format to help accommodate travel for COVID-19. The Bears won the Mountain Division with a 3-0 record and ended up 3-1 overall. The Bears lost to Tusculum, 28-23, in the SAC title game.
In 2019, the Bears went 13-1 overall and 9-0 in SAC action, reaching the Division II regional finals. The Bears beat Miles and Carson-Newman before losing to eventual national champion West Florida.
Allbaugh is one of the best kickers in Division II. His 76 consecutive extra points made in a season is an NCAA record. He is also Lenoir-Rhyne’s all-time scoring leader among kickers and is the SAC’s single-season record holder for points by a kicker.
The Bears open the season at Virginia State on Sept. 4. After a week off, the Bears start SAC action at Newberry.
