The Montana Grizzlies are No. 7 in the 2021 College Football America Yearbook’s FCS Preseason Top 30.
The Grizzlies did not participate in Big Sky Conference play last season, but they did play two games in the spring. Montana defeated Central Washington, 59-3, and defeated Portland State, 48-7.
In 2019, the Grizzlies went 10-4, reaching the FCS Playoffs, where after a first-round bye they defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 73-28. Then, in the quarterfinals, they faced Big Sky rival Weber State, and they fell, 17-10.
The Grizzlies will be led by linebacker Jace Lewis, who is on the Buck Buchanan Award watch list, which is given to the best defensive player in FCS. Lewis enters his senior season with 219 career tackles and 21 tackles for loss.
The Grizzlies open the season on Sept. 4 at Washington. The Grizzlies then take on Western Illinois on Sept. 11 before taking a week off. Then, the Grizzlies start Big Sky play on Sept. 25 at home against Cal Poly.
