Sam Houston Bearkats wide receiver Jequez Ezzard is on the 2021 College Football America Yearbook’s FCS Preseason Starting Lineup, the book’s version of a preseason All-America team.

Additionally, the Bearkats are No. 1 in the 2021 College Football America Yearbook’s FCS Preseason Top 30.

Plus, Ezzard is on the cover of the book’s FCS coverage.

The Bearkats went 10-0 overall, 6-0 in the Southland Conference under head coach K.C. Keeler. Once reaching the playoffs, the Bearkats defeated Monmouth (NJ), 21-15, North Dakota State, 24-20, and James Madison, 38-35, to reach the national championship game against South Dakota State. In Frisco, Texas, the Bearkats won their first national championship in FCS with a 23-21 win over the Jackrabbits.

Ezzard was the most outstanding player of that national championship game and returns for the Bearkats in 2021. Selected as a returner on the Starting Lineup, he was the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, an Associated Press All-America second team wide receiver and an American Football Coaches Association All-America first team punt returner.

Also selected to the Starting Lineup were defensive lineman Jahari Kay and defensive back Zyon McCollum. Kay was a Buck Buchanan Award Finalist who earned .AP All-America First-Team honors 5.5 sacks. McCollum was an AFCA Second-Team All-American.

The Bearkats are now in the Western Athletic Conference and will open their season on Sept. 2 at Northern Arizona.
