Jahari Kay of Sam Houston State leads eight 2021 College Football America Yearbook FCS Preseason Starting Lineup selections named to the 2021 Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List.

The Buchanan award is given to the nation’s top defensive player in FCS. Last year Southern’s Jordan Lewis won the award. Lewis is back for another season, attempting to become the second player to win the award multiple times.

Kay, who helped lead the Bearkats to their first FCS championship in May, is coming off a season in which he was a Buchanan Award Finalist and a First-Team All-American. He is already the Western Athletic Conference Preseason Defensive Player of the Year selection.

His teammate, cornerback Zyon McCollum, also made the Buchanan list and the Starting Lineup. McCollum was a First-Team All-Southland Conference selection and made two All-America teams, including first-team selection by HERO Sports.

In all, eight of the 11 Starting Lineup defensive selections made the Buchanan Watch List. The others are:

McNeese State defensive lineman Isaiah Chambers, who was a consensus All-American and finished fourth in last year’s Buchanan Award voting.

Northern Iowa defensive lineman Jared Brinkman, who had 3.5 sacks and 9 tackles for loss last season for the Panthers.

North Dakota State linebacker James Kaczor, a Second-Team All-American who had 70 tackles and missed the Bison’s playoff run with an injury.

Idaho’s Tre Walker, who finished 10th in Buchanan voting last year, made four All-America teams as a first-team selection and averaged 13.5 tackles per game.

Jacksonville State defensive back Nicario Harper, who was the OVC Defensive Player of the Year, a Buchanan Award Finalist and an FCS ADA All-American as the best player in the nation at his position.

The 2021 College Football America Yearbook features more than 20 pages of FCS content, including an overall preview of each conference, a spotlight piece on a stadium in each conference, the FCS Starting Lineup and all team schedules and results.

The College Football America 2021 Yearbook features more than 900 college football teams from the United States and Canada in more than 250 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). It also includes updates on club football, one-year postgraduate prep/sports academies and Mexican college football, along with dozens of action shots and stadium photos taken by the CFA staff.
