Sam Houston Is No. 1 in AFCA 2021 FCS Preseason Top 25

The American Football Coaches Association Preseason Top 25 has Sam Houston as the No. 1 going into the season, the same place the 2021 College Football America Yearbook had the Bearkcats in their  Preseason Top 30.

The AFCA installed the Bearkats at No. 1, as Sam Houston is coming off its first FCS national crown. The College Football America Yearbook did the same, citing the title and the wealth of returning starters the Bearkats possess.

AFCA then had James Madison at No. 2, North Dakota State at No. 3, South Dakota State at No. 4, Delaware at No. 5, Weber State at No. 6, North Dakota at No. 7, Jacksonville State at No. 8, Montana at No. 9 and Southern Illinois at No. 10.

The College Football America Yearbook ranked South Dakota State at No. 2, followed by No. 3 North Dakota State, No. 4 James Madison, No. 5 Southern Illinois, No. 6 Delaware, No. 7 Montana, No. 8 Eastern Washington, No. 9 North Dakota and No. 10 Southeastern Louisiana in its preseason Top 30.

After the Top 10, AFCA had Montana State at No. 11, Monmouth (NJ) at No. 12, Central Arkansas at No. 13, Eastern Washington at No. 14, Villanova at No. 15, Northern Iowa at No. 16, Southeastern Louisiana at No. 17, Chattanooga at No. 18, VMI at No. 19, Kennesaw State at No. 20, UC Davis at No. 21, Richmond at No. 22, Nicholls State at No. 23, North Carolina A&T at No. 24 and Austin Peay at No. 25.

The remainder of the College Football America Yearbook Top 30 included No. 11 Jacksonville State, No. 12 Weber State, No. 13 Monmouth (NJ), No. 14 Nicholls State, No. 15 ETSU, No. 16 Austin Peay, No. 17 Villanova, No. 18 Central Arkansas, No. 19 Chattanooga, No. 20 Kennesaw State, No. 21 Missouri State, No. 22 North Carolina A&T, No. 23 VMI, No. 24 Montana State, No. 25 Illinois State, No. 26 Holy Cross, No. 27 Mercer, No. 28 Murray State, No. 29 San Diego and No. 30 Stephen F. Austin.

The College Football America 2021 Yearbookfeatures more than 900 college football teams from the United States and Canada in more than 250 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). It also includes updates on club football, one-year postgraduate prep/sports academies and Mexican college football, along with dozens of action shots and stadium photos taken by the CFA staff.
