College Football America Plans 5 Games for Labor Day Weekend

Tulsa, SMU

The College Football America Yearbook staff will be at five college football games on Labor Day weekend, the staff’s first weekend on the road for the 2021 college football season.

Chuck Cox and Matthew Postins will be in four different states, with Cox criss-crossing West Texas, while Postins works his way through Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

Cox will start his weekend in Canyon, Texas, where the West Texas A&M Buffaloes are set to host Texas College on Thursday, Sept. 2. While the CFA staff has seen both teams on several occasions, this will be their first trip to Canyon for a WTAMU home game.

The 2021 College Football America Yearbooknamed WTAMU return man Tobias Harris to its Division II Preseason Starting Lineup.

That same evening, Postins will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the Tulsa Golden Hurricane host the UC Davis Aggies.

The staff has made the trip to Tulsa several times, with their last visit coming on Nov. 25, 2017, when the Golden Hurricane hosted Temple. This is the first time the staff will see UC Davis in person.

Tulsa placed five players on the 2021 College Football America Yearbook American Athletic Conference Preseason Starting Lineup. UC Davis punter Daniel Whelan made the Yearbook’s FCS Preseason Starting Lineup.

On Friday, Postins will be in Lawrence, Kansas, as the Kansas Jayhawks will host the South Dakota Coyotes. The staff has seen Kansas plenty of times, the latest being in 2019 in Fort Worth when the Jayhawks faced TCU. But this will be the staff’s first visit to cover a Jayhawks home game. The game also marks the debut of Lance Leipold as Kansas head coach.

On Saturday, Cox will be in Abilene, Texas, to see Hardin-Simmons host Wayland Baptist. Hardin-Simmons came in at No. 12 in the Division III Preseason Top 30 put together by the College Football America Yearbook. Additionally, Hardin-Simmons has a player on the Division III Preseason Starting Lineup. The staff’s last trip to Shelton Stadium was on Sept. 16, 2017, when Hardin-Simmons hosted Louisiana College.

Also on Saturday, Postins will be in Lincoln, Nebraska, to see Nebraska host Fordham.

While the staff has seen the Huskers before, their last trip to Lincoln, ended in a rainout, when Nebraska hosted Akron on Sept. 1, 2018. This will be Postins’ first trip to Lincoln. One Nebraska player was named to the Big Ten Preseason Starting Lineup, as selected by the College Football America Yearbook.

The staff last saw Fordham on Sept. 1, 2017, when the Rams traveled to West Point to face the Army West Point Black Knights. Postins covered that game as well.

The College Football America 2021 Yearbook features more than 900 college football teams from the United States and Canada in more than 250 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). It also includes updates on club football, one-year postgraduate prep/sports academies and Mexican college football, along with dozens of action shots and stadium photos taken by the CFA staff.
