Texas Tech spent the entire game trying to fight out SFA, which cashed in on three Red Raider turnovers and had a chance to win the game on its final drive before the Lumberjacks were unable to score on fourth down inside the Red Raiders’ 20-yard line.
Texas Tech running back Tajh Brooks continued his great start to the season with 115 yards rushing and two touchdowns, including a 67-yard touchdown run. Red Raiders wide receiver Erik Ezukanma caught six passes for 144 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown pass. Quarterback Tyler Shough threw for 163 yards and a touchdown, but also threw two interceptions, one of which SFA returned for a touchdown.
Colin Schooler and Reggie Pearson Jr. led the Red Raiders with seven tackles each.
SFA had not beaten Texas Tech in three previous tries, and this was by far the Lumberjacks’ closest game with the Red Raiders.
Quarterback Trae Self threw for 343 yards and a touchdown for SFA, while Xavier Gipson caught 12 passes for 158 yards.
Willie Taylor returned the SFA interception that went for a touchdown. Placekicker Chris Campos made three field goals for the Lumberjacks.
