The Sam Houston Bearkats remained at No. 1 in the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll after Week 2, and the top five spots remained the same in the poll.
The defending-champion Bearkats defeated Southeast Missouri, 52-14, and received 25 first-place votes.
James Madison received a first-place vote and came in at No. 2 in the poll after pounding Maine, 55-7. After that, South Dakota State was No. 3, receiving two first-place votes, after a 52-7 win over Division II Lindenwood. North Dakota State, which defeated Valparaiso, 64-0, and Montana, which defeated Western Illinois, 42-7, rounded out the Top 5.
No. 6 Eastern Washington, No. 7 Delaware No. 8 Weber State, No. 9 Southern Illinois and No. 9 Villanova finished off the Top 10. SIU was the only Top 10 team to lose last week, as the Salukis fell to Kansas State. SIU and Villanova finished in a tie.
The rest of the Top 25 included No. 11 Jacksonville State (which defeated Florida State), No. 12 UC Davis, No. 13 Montana State, No. 14 North Dakota, No. 15 Northern Iowa, No. 16 Southeastern Louisiana, No. 17 East Tennessee State, No. 18 Richmond, No. 19 Missouri State, No. 20 Monmouth (NJ), No. 21 Austin Peay, No. 22 Chattanooga, No. 23 New Hampshire, No. 24 Central Arkansas and No. 25 Furman.
VMI and Kennesaw State dropped out of the Top 25.
