The Lumberjacks (2-1) won with relative ease, building a 17-3 at the end of the first quarter and a 38-13 lead at halftime. SFA quarterback Trae Self threw for just 214 yards on 10 completions, but he threw two touchdown passes. Wide receiver Xavier Gipson had 207 all-purpose yards and his three touchdowns. Bert Morris and Chance Hill each had six tackles for SFA.

Caleb Johnson score Mississippi Valley’s (0-2) only touchdown of the game, a 15-yard rush in the second quarter. He was the Delta Devils’ primary source of offense, with 89 yards rushing. Quarterback Conor Regan threw for 99 yards.

SFA has a bye week before its annual Battle of the Piney Woods game with Sam Houston. MVSU plays Southern in the Delta-Bayou Classic next Sunday.
