AFCA Division II Top 25: Northwest Missouri Holds at No. 2

Northwest Missouri Bearcats

The Northwest Missouri Bearcats remained No. 2, despite needing a come-from-behidn effort to beat Pittsburg State, in the  American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, released on Oct. 11.

Northwest Missouri won the game, 20-19, to remain undefeated. The Beacats were down 16-0 five minutes into the third quarter and rallied to avoid the upset.

The West Florida Argos remained undefeated and remained No. 1 in the poll, as they received all 30 first-place votes.

The rest of the Top 5 also remained unchanged, with Ferris State at No. 3, Valdosta State at No. 4 and Colorado Mines at No. 5.

The rest of the Top 10 included No. 6 Slippery Rock, No. 7 Grand Valley State, No. 8 Wingate, No. 9 Henderson State and No. 10 West Alabama. The College Football America Yearbook Staff saw Henderson State defeat Southeastern Oklahoma on Oct. 2.  

After the Top 10, AFCA had No. 11 Ouachita Baptist, No. 12 West Georgia, No. 13 California (PA), No. 14 Notre Dame (OH), No. 15 Shepherd, No. 16 Bowie State, No. 17 Bentley, No. 18 Minnesota-Duluth, No. 19 Midwestern State, No. 20 Harding, No. 21 Nebraska-Kearney, No. 22 Augustana (SD), No. 23 Wayne State (NE), No. 24 Western Colorado and No. 25 Kutztown.

Minnesota St. (11), Frostburg St. (Md.) (23), Chowan (N.C.) (24) dropped out of the Top 25.

Others Receiving Votes included Indiana (Pa.), 23; Frostburg St. (Md.), 22; Truman St. (Mo.), 22; Minnesota St., 21; Southeastern Oklahoma, 15; Charleston (W.Va.), 13; Pittsburg St. (Kan.), 12; Albany St. (Ga.), 11; Angelo St. (Texas), 11; Chowan (N.C.), 10; Washburn (Kan.), 8; Colorado St.-Pueblo, 5; Colorado Mesa, 3; Shippensburg (Pa.), 3; Ohio Dominican, 2; Indianapolis (Ind.), 1; Savannah St. (Ga.), 1.
