AFCA FCS Top 25: Sam Houston Preps for Top 25 Showdown

The Sam Houston Bearkats were off last weekend, but they remained No. 1 in the nation, when the  AFCA FCS Coaches’ Top 25 Poll was released after the games on Oct. 16.

The Bearkats, the defending national champions, are 5-0 and are one of three remaining undefeated teams in the Top 10, along with Eastern Washington and North Dakota State.

The Bearkats received 26 of the 28 first-place votes, while Eastern Washington, which came in at No. 2, received the other two.

Sam Houston will host No. 21 Jacksonville State on Saturday.

After Sam Houston and Eastern Washington, the rest of the top 10 included No. 3 North Dakota State, No. 4 Southern Illinois, No. 5 Villanova, No. 6 James Madison, No. 7 South Dakota State, No. 8 Montana State, No. 9 Southeastern Louisiana and No. 10 UC Davis.

The rest of the Top 25 included No. 11 Kennesaw State, No. 12 Montana, No. 13 UT Martin, No. 14 East Tennessee, No. 15 South Dakota, No. 16 Harvard, No. 17 Princeton, No. 18 Missouri State, No. 19 Rhode Island, No. 20 Jackson State, No. 21 Jacksonville State, No. 22 Eastern Kentucky, No. 23 VMI, No. 24 Northern Iowa and No. 25 Delaware.

Weber State and North Dakota dropped out of the Top 25.

Others Receiving Votes included UIW, 70; Dartmouth, 67; North Dakota, 34; Chattanooga, 33; Weber St., 28; Monmouth (N.J.), 19; Florida A&M, 15; Duquesne, 13; Sacramento St., 10; Holy Cross, 9; Furman, 8; Mercer, 6; New Hampshire, 6; Stephen F. Austin, 6; Yale, 6; Prairie View A&M, 2; Towson, 2; Elon, 1.
