The Alabama Crimson Tide moved up to No. 1 in the newest USA Today Coaches Top 25, which was released on Dec. 5.
The Crimson Tide (12-1) won the SEC Championship game on Saturday, ending Georgia’s undefeated season in the process. The Bulldogs (12-1) came in at No. 3 in the latest Coaches’ poll.
The College Football Playoff revealed the field on Sunday morning, with Alabama, Michigan, Georgia and Cincinnati making the four-team field. The Coaches’ poll aligned with the seeds. Alabama was No. 1, Michigan was No. 2, Georgia was No. 3 and Cincinnati was No. 4 in the CFP rankings and in the Coaches’ poll.
Cincinnati will face Alabama in the Cotton Bowl, while Michigan will face Georgia in the Orange Bowl. Both of those games are New Year’s Eve.
From there, the poll fell like this: No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 6 Baylor, No. 7 Ohio State, No. 8 Ole Miss, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Michigan State.
The rest of the USA Today Coaches Top 25 included No. 11 Utah, No. 12 Pitt, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 14 BYU, No. 15 Oregon, No. 16 Iowa, No. 17 Louisiana, No. 18 NC State, No. 19 Wake Forest, No. 20 Kentucky, No. 21 Houston, No. 22 Clemson, No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 24 Arkansas and No. 25 UTSA.
San Diego State dropped out of the poll.
Teams also receiving votes included Wisconsin 105; Utah State 85; San Diego State 62; Minnesota 17; Air Force 15; Penn State 5; Fresno State 5; UCLA 3; Mississippi State 2; Coastal Carolina 2; Appalachian State 2; Purdue 1.
