The Grand Valley State Lakers are No. 8 in the 2022 College Football America Yearbook’s Division II Preseason Top 30.
The Lakers are coming off a 2021 in which they went 10-2 overall and 6-1 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Lakers were second in league play behind Ferris State, which won the GLIAC, went undefeated and claimed the national championship.
The Lakers reached the playoffs, where they beat Lindenwood in the first round before losing to Ferris State, 54-20, in the next round.
The Lakers open the season against a pair of teams from Colorado — hosting Colorado Mines on Sept. 1 and traveling to CSU-Pueblo on Sept. 10. The Lakers open GLIAC action on Oct. 1 at home against Saginaw Valley State, and the get a rematch with Ferris State at Big Rapids, Mich., on Oct. 15.
