The AAC rankings are based off the College Football America Yearbook’s overall Top 131 rankings, which ranks every team in FBS entering the season.
UCF, Houston and Cincinnati will be moving to the Big 12 in 2023, so this will each team’s final season in the AAC. The Knights, ranked No. 26 overall in the FBS Top 131, have the slight edge over Houston, which is right behind UCF at No. 2 and No. 27 overall.
Cincinnati, which is the defending AAC champion and became the first Group of 5 team to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff, is No. 3 and 28 overall. The main thing the Bearcats have to overcome is losing nine players to the NFL Draft, the third-most of any college program in 2022 behind Georgia (15) and Alabama (10).
Houston is led by Cougars quarterback Clayton Tune. He led the Cougars to a 12-win season and a trip to the American Athletic Championship Game against Cincinnati. He threw for 3,544 yards and 30 touchdowns last season. He’s on the cover of the 2022 College Football America Yearbook.
The Knights are coming off a 9-4 season and a win over Florida in a bowl game. Even with the loss of quarterback Dillon Gabriel — who transferred to Oklahoma after missing most of last season — the Knights still have stars like running back Isaiah Bowser and wide receiver Ryan O’Keefe.
The 2022 College Football America Yearbook features eight pages of AAC content, including an overall preview of the conference race, a spotlight piece on a stadium, the AAC Starting Lineup, all team schedules and a half-page devoted to each program.
The 2022 College Football America Yearbook features more than 900 college football teams from the United States and Canada in more than 250 striking, full-color pages. That includes every team from the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III), NAIA, NJCAA, CCCAA and U Sports (Canada). It also includes dozens of action shots and stadium photos taken by the CFA staff.
The print edition is available online via Amazon.com and other major retailers such as Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million.
