Sam Houston Bearkats Featured in 2022 College Football America Yearbook

Sam Houston State Bearkats

The Sam Houston Bearkats are No. 5 in the 2022 College Football America Yearbook’s FCS Preseason Top 30.

The Bearkats were the defending national champions in 2021 and went 10-1 overall and 5-0 in Western Athletic Conference games. The Bearkats lost in the FCS quarterfinals at home to Montana State, which went on to play in the title game against North Dakota State.

While Sam Houston is ranked in the Top 5, the Bearkats are not eligible for either the WAC title or to play in FCS postseason action in 2022. The Bearkats are preparing to make the transition to FBS football and will move to Conference USA for the 2023 football season.

The Bearkats open the season on Sept. 3 at Texas A&M. After that, the Bearkats hots Northern Arizona on Sept. 17 and Texas A&M-Commerce on Sept. 17 before taking a week off in preparation for The Battle of the Piney Woods against Stephen F. Austin on Oct. 1, which could be the last time the game is played in the near future.
