Two Morningside Mustangs, including quarterback Joe Dolincheck, are part of the 2022 College Football America Yearbook’s NAIA Preseason Starting Lineup, the book’s version of a preseason All-America team.
Just as importantly, the Mustangs are No. 1 in the 2022 College Football America Yearbook’s NAIA Preseason Top 30. The Mustangs are the highest-ranked Great Plains Athletic Conference program in the CFA preseason Top 30.
Dolincheck was the NAIA Player of the Year for 2021 after throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 40 touchdowns in leading the Mustangs to a national championship.
He is joined on the preseason team by Caleb Schweigert, who is listed as a wide receiver but made the team as a punt returner. Last season he had two punt returns for a touchdown with an average of 17 yards per return.
Morningside went undefeated in 2021, going 14-0 and winning their third national championship in four seasons when they beat Grand View, 38-28.
The Mustangs open the season at home against on Sept. 3 against Northwestern (IA), which is also their GPAC opener and a rematch of last year’s national semifinal.
